5 Star CDL Academy is a long-time client at BIC, but recently came under new ownership. Les Cotton reopened 5 Star May 1, 2016, and has already placed a number of qualified CDL truck drivers and forklift operators in the workforce. Training at 5 Star includes classroom hours, lab time, and rigorous driving behind the wheel of the big rigs or the forklift.
Students graduate with the knowledge to not only handle their rig, but to deal with different situations and think on their feet (or their wheels!).
Attendance of an approved truck driving school can help lower employer’s insurance rates. 5 Star can also tailor their training to employer’s needs including training, screening potential drivers, and short refresher courses. They also work with the local WorkForce Centers, Division of Vocational Rehab, and Veteran’s Offices.
Truck drivers are in demand, and the demand will continue to grow. The Department of Labor estimates that by 2020, more than 180,000 drivers will be needed to replace the aging workforce of drivers, whose current average age is 55.
