Business: Happy Roots Plant Pots

What does Happy Roots Plant Pots do?

Happy Roots designs, develops, manufactures, and sells unique and innovative bottom watering plant pots.

What inspired you to start this business?

As avid houseplant lovers, we struggled to find quality ceramic planters with proper drainage. We also loved bottom watering our plants and having matching sets of planters. So, we created Happy Roots Plant Pots to provide superior care for our houseplants and help others with theirs.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Rikki:  I graduated from Colorado Mesa University in 2019 with both a Bachelor’s in Fine Art and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. During my tenure at the university, I concentrated on mold-making, casting, and entrepreneurship. I love making art, camping, and being with my family.

Marc: With a background in research & development, I have a passion for technology and product design. I love tinkering and finding ways to create more efficient manufacturing processes. In my free time, I enjoy coding and adventuring outdoors.

What brought you to the Business Incubator?

We sought out the Business Incubation Center because operations outgrew our home. Development of our products occurred inside our apartment where we converted the dining room, living room, spare bedrooms, and kitchen into space for the business.

Currently manufacturing products for sale, we are incredibly fortunate that the Business Incubation Center has provided both manufacturing space and specialized business consulting to us.

What are you hoping to gain from this program?

As first-time business owners, Marc and I are extremely excited to absorb as much information as possible from the Incubator Program, including taking classes and meeting with advisors. We are also ecstatic to meet other like-minded entrepreneurs in the Grand Valley.

Describe a typical day for you.

Workdays include 3D printing patterns, mold-making, and product testing. Every day we are casting products, glazing, firing, and shipping.
