Chief Executive Officer
The Board of Directors for the Western Colorado Business Development Corp. (i.e. The Business Incubator Center) located in Grand Junction, CO is conducting a search to fill the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Business Incubator Center (BIC) was founded in 1987 and is a 60,000 sq.ft. mixed-use campus which includes a manufacturing center, office space as well as a commercial kitchen, a MakerSpace, and a satellite site in nearby Fruita. The Center hosts a Business Loan Fund and Small Business Development Center (SBDC), as well as providing administration for the Enterprise Zone tax credit program. In 2020, BIC working with more than 600 clients, housed 28 Incubator businesses and 30 businesses in Commercial Kitchen Program, created or retained 198 jobs, generated $2M in SBDC Capital Formation, and provided $2.27M of funding for small businesses. The Center is a vital part of economic development on the Western Slope of Colorado. BIC is an active member of InBIA and has twice won the Dinah Atkins Incubator of the Year.
The Business Incubator Center shares a physical campus with a Department of Energy facility and BIC acts as property manager for the site. The CEO will be responsible for some direct and oversight of property management for the compound.
Grand Junction MSA of approximately 148,000 is the regional economic, medical, educational, and outdoor recreation hub of Colorado’s Western Slope. Grand Junction is home to a number of manufacturing and service industries. There are also four area hospitals, a regional airport, and Colorado Mesa University. Entrepreneurial potential is high as Grand Junction ranked 11th in Best Places to Start a Business in Colorado.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The CEO should expect to
Add value to local start-up and emerging firms
Be an advocate for entrepreneurship and Incubator Center’s role in economic development
Participate in guiding the overall economic development for the area
Be a leader, visionary and entrepreneur
Support and inspire staff
Engage the local communities
• A demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset
• Organizational leadership experience
• Proven team building skills
• Experience coaching and supporting small business
• Strong financial management and analysis skills
• Proven written and verbal communication skills
• Orientation toward service demonstrated through professional experience
• Ability to establish cross-cultural relationships across a wide variety of diversity dimensions
• Master’s degree in business or related field and 5 years experience or the equivalent is strongly preferred. Experience would include:
Working in or for business incubator or accelerator programs prior; grant writing and fundraising is helpful;
Exposure to startup funding via grants, loans, angel, or venture capital;
Facility management experience is helpful;
Nonprofit sector exposure;
Familiarity with government programs and grants relating to business support and
Management of multiple contracts is an asset
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-time as soon as possible. No relocation offered.
SALARY: Salary range is $80k-95k with an excellent benefits package. Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications
